I cut up my 2005 RNC card and sent it back to the RNC with a note. I'm outta there! Jeb Bush was the last man to turn his back on Terri and walk away leaving her there to die a heinous death while her family was forced to watch helplessly in horror.
And Judge George Greer is a REPUBLICAN who was supported for re-election (not that long ago) by REPUBLICANS in that neck of the woods.
I WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH THE REPUBLICAN PARTY FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!! I have already re-registered "Decline to State".
I think whoever wrote this article doesn't have a lick of common sense.
As much as I am also disgusted by the events of the last 2 weeks, I can't afford to abstain from the fight. I will work from the inside, fighting tooth and nail to get reps who believe in life, and are willing to fight for it. If they don't, like the Specter's and Snow's of the government, then I will fight to get someone in there who will respect a constituent's wishes.
Right!! In a 2 party system you are giving half a vote to the Democrats. They want every conservative euthanized you will only help them!
The only thing that brought me back to my senses was a visit to DU.
Try it..it will do wonders for realigning your allegiance.
Those people over there are not only self centered but morally bankrupt as well.
No offense, but you sound like one of those wineey Democrats who vowed to leave the USA because GWB was re-elected.
I fought hard in support of Terri Shindler. I sent money to the Shindler's. I called govt. reps and asked to help save Terri.
I called talk radio over and over.
In short, I fought hard in support of life. I, and most others, would never abandon the party which exemplifies and represents life better than any other.
For those who are THAT willing to 'take your ball and go home,' I suggest you should look deep inside your own self to find what is really motivating you.
You left the GOP? Okay, then.
See ya! And I wouldn't want to be ya.
You will find in any group of humans, a wide spectrum of beliefs. Some Dems are more like Reps, and vice-versa. Don't get mad at the people who should have acted the way you wanted...Rail-Against-The-Machine (work for changes in the laws, and in attitudes of the people)...
Don't give up. We need you and the battle for this country is occuring in the GOP.
As detestable as I find the outcome of recent events, especially the way the Florida GOP handled it, I'm going to wait and watch for the next year to see if the party takes any promising stands for once. Mind you, I'm not really all that hopeful.
Just a wild guess, but I think they'll be better off without you.
I dont know about common sense but he seems to have little political sense, killing Terri Schiavo meant alienating Christian voters within the Republican Party and like you they will probably take similar actions. Not saving Terri Schiavo would not have provoked the same reaction from the common sense Republicans who advocated everyone stay within the framework of the law (I wonder if they will feel the same way about the law if the world court brings George W Bush to trail for his illegal war against the Iraqi people, but I digress..).
The arguments that you will hear will be that you are handing a victory to the other side, Clinton will get the White House and so on. Scare tactics. And as I'm writing this they have probably already been posted.
What the writer fails to recognize is that the slim majority is kept there by people who hold Gods law first and Americas second and their beliefs mean they will not, and cannot compromise, even if it means letting a Democrat take the White House again. But then again perhaps another bout of Democrat in the White House may bring the CSRs (Common Sense Republicans) to their senses. What the writer is missing is letting Terri die was not a very cleaver thing to do from a political point of view and asking Christian Republicans to put it behind them and move on.org is even more foolish. Expecting Democrats who are fed up with the DNC at the moment to fill the gap is a bit of a long shot.
A week in politics is a long time so things may change but stating quite categorically that Terri Schiavos death will not have a negative effect on the polls does show a lack of understanding and a total disregard for those who were behind the Republican revolution until late last week.
I WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH THE REPUBLICAN PARTY FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!! I have already re-registered "Decline to State"
I was upset about the lack of courage by some Republican politicians. There were a lot of them who worked very hard to save Terri, they just didn't resort to violent tactics (advocated by some here on FR) to try and change the course of events.
I appreciate everything that Jeb, GW and Republican (and some Democrat) Congress men and women did to try and save Terri. I think to disparage them so completely is wrong. How are you going to keep them engaged in this fight if you attack everything they tried to do?
Yes, some seemed to flinch at the last... but maybe for good reason. The left was set to battle this tooth and nail. They were salivating at thought of using this so-called 'constitutional crisis' to beat the Republicans with. The MSM were complicit in misrepresenting (as they always do when the cause is conservative) the issues in this case. It seems more likely that the Republicans who truly do believe in the sanctity of life were caught in a fight they knew they could not win. This does not mean however that they will not be back to do battle on this issue again (and hopefully on firmer ground).
Terri was murdered by decree of an elected Florida State judge. Who should be held accountable? I would say the people of Pinellas County who elected him and stood by letting him kill an innocent woman.
In the meantime, I will remain in the Republican party, the one party that does still respect a right to life. The one party that can offer any hope of reining in those who seek to establish a culture of death.
