Wanna Buy a Bridge?(WARNING: CRUDE LANGUAGE)
I am in sales and had to follow up on a lead for the Scientology building in Hollywood in the early '90's. I checked in at their security and they kept my driver's license, asked for my ss# as well. I was LED thru the building - a maze of cubicles- to the elevators and then taken up one or two floors then we got off and went thru another maze of cubicles to an elevator then up another couple of floors to the final destination for my meeting. I have to say if there was a fire I would not have known
A. where I was in the building
B. How to get out of the building
C. if they would even let me out of the building
Summary: I never went back, did not care if I lost the sale. Entirely too creepy and this was before I ever heard anything about them being a cult. I thought they were a church (sorry never really paid attention to them until then)!!!!
I read the article linked. Pretty amazing. A good friend's parents got heavily involved in Scientology when she was a young teenager; it ruined her entire family and her parents essentially went crazy, after spending huge amounts of money. She was kicked out of the family house at age 15 because she refused to attend any more Scientology sessions.
Her brothers also were forced to get involved and "work" for hours. One is now an alcholic, another is permanently on Prozac.
Interesting reading at the link provided, thank you for posting it.
My oldest sister, her husband, and her four daughters are all Scientologists. She explained her niacin/steam bath experience to me 20 years ago. Recalling it still gives me the creeps. Her oldest daughter was married and had an affair. The cult looked unfavorably on this behavior. In order to repair her relationship with the "church" she had to pay them $10,000. I understand that my sister has given them a small fortune over the years.
I've missed the Scientology connection to the Terri Schaivo case. Could you elaborate please?
