An equal number of non Jews have not suffered. Jews were targeted in a unique and special way. Get it? Jews were a small minority of the overall population; their being targeted in a 'unique and special' way would not preclude the absolute number of murdered Jews from being roughly comparable to the absolute number of murdered non-Jews. I don't know how precisely either number can be determined given that the Germans destroyed many of the records of their crimes.
