I'm watching the mass at St. Patrick's on Fox, and I noticed that Cardinal Egan is known as "Edward Cardinal Egan." Could someone please explain why he is not "Cardinal Edward Egan"? I'm not Catholic so it struck me curious.
My prayers go out to all Catholic FReepers out there. He was truly a great man.

That's the way all Cardinals are addressed. I don't know the historical reasons for it.
