Usually you lose when you're in Las Vegas, not before you get there. But don't tell that to the Denver Nuggets.

Coach George Karl recently made a pact with the team: Play well in March, and the team would spend a couple off days in the beginning of April together in the City of Sin.

I'm trying to imagine what sort of incentive might enable my Lakers to overtake the Nuggets....I'm pretty sure a trip to Eagle, CO, wouldn't be it.

I'm wondering when ticket prices will drop since the product is now inferior. Go Kobe (to another team that is). Buss made a huge mistake when he let Mr. Laker, Jerry West, leave the team.

Mitch Cupcake hasn't exactly been inspiring, has he? You're correct to point to management as the solution--it always is. Coaches get the ink, but GMs assemble the team.

Right now, Brian Grant's albatross contract hampers the Lakers for two more years. So, I guess they'll just have to draft better, won't they?

Mitch is just following the orders of Jerry Buss. It was Buss who decided that Kobe was the player around whom to center the franchise, even after the Eagle affair. Mitch had to trade Shaq at fire sale value, and he had to get O'Neal out of the Western Conference if he could. The trade with Miami was ridiculously one-sided, but who made a comparable offer?

Brian Grant is not the same player he was five years ago, and the Lakers are stuck with him. It is amazing that freeing themselves of Shaq's contract has not resulted in the Lakers having the freedom to pursue high priced free agents who might compliment Kobe. The Lakers will be mediocre for another two years at least.

I Know Cupcake did Buss' bidding. I'm referring to his poor drafts, especially of foreign players. He passed on Parker, Ginobli, Stojakavic, (and Kirilenko?), etc. Instead we have tweener Walton, one-dimensional Cook, and that certain future star Vucacic. If you're drafting last, you'd better be right.

Not that I disagree with that advice (I agree with it), but ... why? Are more legal eagles of copyright swooping down on FreeRepublic?
