I know some of you will beat me up, but I'm upset that this Schiavo murder issue, which impacts ALL Americans, is being pre-empted by the current "all pope, all the time" news coverage, pertinent only to one denomination. Evangelical Christians, et al., are not interested in this, but it's consuming the airwaves which could be bringing attention to the ramifications surrounding Terri's murder.
IIRC, the Florida shark attacks also pre-empted the Gary Condit "murder". I bet that upset you also.
What, did you think that the news media actually cares? Oh, and what about the people who actually care about the Pope's condition. They don't count?
"Schiavo murder issue"? Who was "murdered"?
I'm more concerned about what's going on behind the screnes while all these other stories, the Pope, Shiavo, Micheal Jackson, and Brittainy Speers pregnacy hog the front pages.
Sorry the Pope picked an inconvenient time to die.
It might be an advantage. News about the Pope will no doubt include coverage of his strong support for life. Also the Vatican spoke out very strongly against the removal of Terri's feeding tube. So by focusing on the Pope the media actually gives attention ( even if it is somewhat indirect) to people like Terri.
No beatings from me. Some of us have wondered about the timing of His Holiness's insertion of a feeding tube and his natural death, vs how Terri died.
This will be headline news for quite a while, because now the Church will be selecting a new pope. Roger Cardinal Mahoney is in Rome, and let me tell ya, he never met a camera he didn't like :( I lived in his archdiocese, so I know.
>"all pope, all the time" news coverage, pertinent only to one denomination.<
Pope John Paul 11 was a major world figure. He was instrumental in bringing down the Iron Curtain, along with President Reagan.
His passing is pertinent to all Americans, not just to Catholics. Don't be so myopic.
Well first it isn't a 'murder issue'. Unless you have pertinent information that the numerous reports to Jeb Bush and the officials of the state of Florida don't know about already. Second it only affected the citizens of the state of Florida as it involved Florida law. But there were plenty of political hacks in other states willing to grandstand for it wasn't there? And as an Evangelical Christian, I'm glad there is finally a break from talking heads discussing what is, was, and should remain clearly a state issue over the airwaves for the other 49 states. Mind you, I'm not a big fan of the Pope but heck it is historical and it's something to watch instead of watching Sean Hannity and Greta Van Sustern sitting in front of a hospice bothering the entrance and exit of the other families going to see their loved ones in their last days.
If you're a Floridian, approach your state legislature to have the law changed to what you think it should be. If not, approach your own state legislature to push for a law that you think it should be. However, leave the mediocre 436 political hacks in Washington alone. If we don't pay them any mind, perhaps they'll get back to the business of running the national government instead of sticking their nose into every state issue they feel they can get some airtime out of..
