POPE: NAVARRO, UP-DATE IN THE AFTERNOON, MAYBE TONIGHT
(AGI) - Vatican City, Apr. 2 - "You need to be up to date", this is how Vatican spokesman Joaquin Navarro Valls explained the intensification of frequency in the provision of information when the Pope's conditions progressively worsen. "This afternoon I will see the Pope at around 17:30, after that I will give you an up-date". Navarro also stated that the "press room will be kept open the whole night if necessary". Navarro's specification unfortunately makes understand that it could not be necessary to keep the press room open also tonight. "In any case, important news will not be communicated by short messages via mobile phone but directly to journalists, this is why the press room is always open", he declared.

POPE: NAVARRO, BEGINNING TO LOSE CONSCIOUSNESS
(AGI) - Vatican, April 2 - John Paul II "technically isn't in a coma". But, "since dawn today, he has been starting to lose consciousness". This decline happened whilst "the Holy Father's general cardio-respiratory and metabolic state of health remained essentially constant though very serious". This is the dramatic summary of the Pope's health given by the Vatican spokesperson, Joaquin Navarro Valls. He explained, "At times the Pope seems to be sleeping. He doesn't always react but when you speak to him, he opens his eyes. For this reason, Navarro pointed out, "technically you can't say he's in a coma". And so this morning at 7.00 a.m., when "mass was said in the Pope's presence, he wasn't able to participate in saying it". (AGI) -
