Because I am judging his worthiness by his previous acts, not by his heart (which I cannot know).
That's all you can do, but it's not necessarily unfair to judge someone on their actions.
I am not even a Catholic, but I worry about this change every time it happens. If we get a liberal Pope, it's over! All the world needs is somebody to change Gods law to their own, and we get Homo marriage, more Terri starvations, etc. I try to have faith that you don't get to be a Cardinal by making it up as you go along, but you just don't know these days. Kinda like a president picking a judge. You don't know what you get till years later. It seemed weird last week to have debate over Terri's murder, with half the priests saying kill her and the Pope saying "No Way"! Can't they tie them up and whip them or something. I can understand Baptist's disagreeing, but Catholics have a church government. Seems like if you ordain someone, you could un-ordain them. That guy that used to be a congresscritter is practically a commie(can't remember his name). Course anybody that is a Jesuit, is anyway. They are the ones that get killed in these 3rd world countries for fomenting revolution.
Remember the "cathedral" he had built? Grand Central Station has more solemnity than that cold, barren barn. I can just see him on the plane ride, agonizing about which cassock to wear to the conclave. I've had enough of him.
