I have just moved and much of my library is packed. I can only find "The Jesuits" and "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Church", neither of which has the citation--but both highly recommended, especially now. BTW, I am not Roman Catholic, but I assert the primacy of the Church. Won't comment further about that.

The book I am thinking of, and cannot locate conveniently, is "The Final Conclave." It is so timely now, as it was in 1978. It contains a description of the death of Peter that is so moving (to me) that it is sublime. It also describes the procedures when a Pope dies. I believe all people, especially Roman Catholics, should read this book for a view of political intrigue that is happening now.

Thank you for that recommendation. I have checked it out on the Los Angeles Publ.ic Library online (lapl.org for Angelinos). I look forward to reading it in the coming days. :)
