=== We need to get back to grassroots conservatism sans the secret power clubs.

We need another Reagan who won't get finessed at the last minute by a cabal who decides he and his "moral majority" (as co-opted by Robertson) might be good for business after all.

(Reagan certainly lent credibility to the notion of perestroika ... because Reagan was the real deal on that score. He also was the ONLY Republican president ever to articulate a compelling argument in defense of human life.)

We also need to have the guts to rethink this two-party system sham. Nothing upsets me more than the idea that a vote is "wasted" if it's not for either the Dems or the Republicans. Surely the fact that Bob Dole has been run up the flagpole since I was in elementary school each time it was time to lose means something to someone.

I can understand having great affection for the President. I'm a Tex-Okie and W. in particular (even Rumsfeld on occasion, however queer that may be) remind me very much of the cut of men I admired growing up and still respect and love. Folks like my Dad, for instance.

But actions do speak louder than words and I think it's past time that we quit taking the Daily Dose and actually took a close look at what the hell is happening here. Why are biometic National IDs passing with only two nays? How could it be the Intel Czar billed passed unanimously?

I think it's because the few legislators who might have the wherewithal to speak up or take a stand know that there's really no point because folks have been shellshocked into trading their liberties for security and letting faith in a Cult of Personality cloud their attention to facts or detail.

As for right-to-life organizations, I'm sure there are many other firebrand groups of integrity out there (I like the Lutherans as well) but for my money you can't beat Judie Brown and the American Life League or Phyllis Schlafly and both the Eagle Forum and Mindzenty Group. They're both outstanding.

I wouldn't overlook cpforlife.org either. He's an excellent example of exactly the sort of grassroots organization so desperately needed to counter to propaganda masquerading as Education. (See his home page.) Also impressive is the way he and his fellows took over an old abortuary, leaving nearly everything in place, and turned it into an American Holocaust Museum in Baton Rouge. That's what we need ... men of action who don't lose hope even when they realize their own Knights of Columbus has become every bit as corrupted as their Republican Party in many respects.

It's no accident that I've been dogged as a "single issue" poster for years now. The message was sent loud and clear the year the Barbara Bush agitated for removal of the human life plank and the GOP featured with all due pride their first openly homosexual speaker at convention.

That doesn't bother me a bit, though, because I'm hip to That Pro-Life Schtick

When folks talk about the Pro-Life Issue, they have a tendency to do it as if they were talking about – oh, I don't know – Taxes or Social Security or Trade and we all know that there are people who have their axes to grind on this thing and that thing and the other things and you kind of pay attention to them because that's their particular schtick and we'll see what happens to it.

And we have a tendency to think of the Pro-Life Cause in that way. Even people who are part of it will sometimes act as if or think as if this is some Special Interest Constituency and therefore we operate in the way that people do in this society when they are pleading a Special Case in which they have an Interest.

All right. If I do nothing else this evening, I hope I'll be able to establish in some little way, that it is not the case. That, in fact, the cause that we gather together here tonight to support is one that is not only vital -- in that we care enough to wish to save the Individual Lives of those infants in the womb – it is one on which depends the Life and Future of our Republic … the Life and Future of our Society.

I don't think that it's at all hard to prove that. The logic is clear. It's simple. It is based upon historic facts that no one denies. And yet, very often today we seem to turn our back on it because, I guess, for a great many people it's more convenient to try to forget who we are than to remember who we are at a time that we would do so to our shame. ....

Anyone who is not filled with shame today has no business calling themselves an American.

I can't believe I'm saying this but perhaps it would have been better if Robertson had been elected President in 88 instead of GHW!

I know the Knights of Columbus has its territorial and political squabbles, like any big major-cause organization, but their committment to the pro-life forum seems genuine and sincere to me. And what about something like Dobson's Focus on the Family?

I'm interested not only in ending abortion but now righting the immense injustices of Terri's murder and making sure things like that never happen again.

[As a side note, can you help me post a couple pictures of Terri in my about me section? I have them saved on my computer and don't have the slightest clue even after reading one of those impossible "sandbox" help threads. Thanks and regards.]
