Excerpt from Daniel Williams, Washington Post, 3/30/05:

The Vatican applied these guidelines to the Schiavo case directly when its newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano, said recently that the decision to remove Schiavo's feeding tube is indicative of a "society incapable of appreciating and defending the gift of life."

As early as 1985, the pontiff told another group of physicians that "even when the sick are incurable they are never untreatable."

the pope said that withholding of nutrition/hydration is euthanasia by omission. and there he is, in need of the very same. at least he has a very public and witnessed record of his stand, which terri did not have.
