Toshiba launches fast-charging lithium ion battery
DP Review ^ | 3/29/05 | DPReview

Toshiba has today announced a new lithium ion battery, which, it claims, can recharge 80% of the battery's energy capacity in just one minute, 60 times faster than the other lithium ion cells. It takes an unspecified 'few' more minutes for a complete recharge.

The battery has a long life cycle, losing only 1% of its capacity after 1,000 cycles of discharging and recharging. Due to be launched next year, it will initially be used to power hybrid electric vehicles but could be used for smaller devices in future, such as mobile phones and digital cameras.

Toshiba sold the US Secrets to the Soviet Uniion on Batteries and Nuclear Technology, and, they gave away our subarine silent running technology away.

Toshiba has been a pain in the ass for US for a long time. They don't give a carp.

I buy nothing Toshiba.

There are a lot of great Japanese Companies. Look, I worked with the Japanese. Sharp is the best, Canon is OK but not as good products.

You would be shocked to know how big Toshiba is.

Go ahead, take your computer apart. You will see the Toshiba names on chips. Ever use a fax machine, Sharp and Toshiba invented it and still enjoy the royalties.

I know the business

Oh yea, Osaka was great. I still prefer American toilets instead of a hole in the floor.

Packing all that energy in that fast sounds dangerous to me. These things are bombs waiting to go off. Might as well have a container of volatile hydrocarbons in your vehicle....oh.... never mind

Have you ever used a Japanese Toto toilet? Man do they flush! I bet they could flush a dump the size of a Pringles can. And the seats are cool, too. When you let them down they close very slowly. No slam. Great at 3 am.
Best toilet I ever cr4pp3d in! P1$$ed, too.
I had a Kohler cheapo that clogged on one sheet of paper, let alone on a whopper. It even clogged if your pee was too dark. I wore out 6-8 plungers on the damn thing. I loved smashing that POS to pieces!

It a toilet testing webpage. It looks like the American toilets are catching up to my Toto tall (ADA) model. I'm not handicapped, but I like a tall toilet. Anyway, it can flush a 900 gram load! That's 2 pounds! They make soybean artificial poop for theses test. Photos included! What a job. Hey, Billy, what does your dad do for a living?

And to think this all started with rechargeable batteries!

I have a friend that ate an entire brick of velveeta in one sitting, if this "toto" toilet can flush the result of that it can flush anything.

However, Soviet submarines were not paragons of reliability even with the quieter propellers. Quieting down a submarine is one thing, but getting decently safe and reliable operation from a nuclear reactor was quite something else, we know now from the Soviets' sordid history of submarine accidents.

Just remember to NEVER flush a power flushing toilet while you are still sitting on it (especially if you are a heavier person) because your butt can form an air tight seal and the suction can pull your intestines out.

Though it seems like it would be, this is not an urban legend.

Thank you for completely hijacking this thread and providing much needed humor break.

We now return you to the toto-toilet-flush-a-dump-the-size-of-a-pringles-can discussion.

But (or should I say butt) this is NOT a power flush toilet. Stictly gravity.
I know a guy who is a bit large who was in his bath tub and pulled the plug while he was in it. The water from the front drained out and the back part remained. I wasn't there but he swears it happened.
I really am interested in the battery story, too, so I hope I haven't driven them away.
