Pilot with the call sign "killer chick" (I wish I knew who she was) after performing straifing runs over downtown Baghdad. -- 2003
Sweet news! Thanks for the post.
HEHHEHHEH
no matter what the fast-mover addicts try, they just cannot get rid of the Hogs.
GOOD.
This is great. We need the Thunderbolt II.
(Just bought a house on a street named "Thunderbolt", named after the first Jug, the P-47 - I think we need one of those model planes with the spinnie propellers on the street sign).
Ahhhhh Glorious overtime
If you want on or off my ping list, please contact me by Freep mail not by posting to this thread.
Beautiful plane. Not in looks exactly, but in ability. I'd hate to be some dumb jihadi staring down the gattling gun of an incoming warthog! Talk about getting torn apart.
It's definately a roller coaster with the off again & on again talk of ditching the bird then keeping the bird then ditching the bird then updating the bird...
It's a great machine...hope it stays around for a long time...the ultimate whoop-ass vehicle!
The A-10 ROCKS ! There will never, ever, ever be a comparable CAS solution for ground forces in a jam. No way, unless there is an A-10-A2 (or some 22nd Century model those lines, A-10-A3, etc).
Idiots who allege that UAVs and "multi purpose" fighters can REPLACE the A-10 and can also "loiter" over the battlefield in a similar manner, take extreme punishment, and carefully pick off ground targets with a cornucopia of weapons are full of absolute and total B.S. and should be fired and/or demoted with extreme prejudice.
Same deal with their limp-wristed "lighter force" liberal "fellow-travelers" who can not TOLERATE that the U.S. has the M1A1/M1A2 Abrams, the King of the battlefield, which can take punishment and dish it out and take it on the ground. (T.U.S.K. upgrade = a GOOD idea).
Let's hope that all of the proponents of the "lighter-force-only" (emphasis on only, granted we do need some 48 hour rapid reaction forces..) lose all the bureaucratic wars and get booted out for good. Same deal with opponents of the A-10.
To be against the A-10 (and M1 Abrams), you almost have to be anti-American...
What a great decision to keep the A-10 flying and updated -
This is a true bargain my friends.
.
Cool stuff - I worked at Nellis when the A-10 was first tested - the "guidance system" then was a grease pencil mark on the canopy. After they got the gun gas ingection problem solved, it was ready for the 'nam....
But - missed it by that much.
Apparently there were 710 A-10's built. 367 are still in service - according to the History Channel's special - ON NOW!
