Manzo favors house seizure in gun cases

The spate of slayings over the first three months of the year has prompted Assemblyman Louis Manzo, D-Jersey City, to introduce a bill which would make it possible to confiscate a home or car in which an illegal firearm is found - even if the gun doesn't belong to the owner.

"Simply put, we cannot afford to lose another life, at a time when it has become a daily routine to read about another life lost in our neighborhoods as a result of gun violence," Manzo says in a letter asking state Assembly Speaker Albio Sires, D-West New York, to expedite a vote on the bill.

Seizure and redistribution of private property at the whim of the authorities is a socialist's wet dream. Relatively minor offenses can be used as an excuse for disproportionate seizures, enriching government agencies, their cronies, or through redistribution, their favored constituents.

We already see this behavior on the part of many law enforcement agencies involved in the WOD.

It's a real nice way of creating easilly controlled homeless probationers as well.

This is not surprising in New Jersey.
The bill will be debated and might even pass in New Jersey.

Cool! Due process and the right to keep and bear arms nuked in one fell swoop. Maybe we can quarter British troops in the seized homes and make it a three-fer.

They don't want us to own guns because then they don't have total control over us....now they want to be able to take all our property away too. Very, Very scary. I will fight these kind of people until I draw my very last breath of air.

If jersey's anything like Rhode Island, most rat voters are in the cemetary already.

If the cops are going to sieze my house, I'm going to kill as many as possible before that happens.

There is no Constitutionally illegal gun.

And so, "you get the government you deserve", takes on a broader meaning. When can the rest of the country secede from NJ, and heck, let's throw in NY while we are at it. Heck, let's just include ALL blue states!!!

I have often said that people running for office should be required to pass a test about the Constitution; after all, they swear to "protect and defend", don't they. But heck, that would mean they would have to be able to read, and even with some comprehension. Oh well, I guess that's just a bridge too far.

It is difficult to determine by the article whether or not the law is targeting people who are illegally possessing any firearm or whether it is targeting any individual who is in possession of a banned firearm under NJ law; or even both.
