Pa. College Professor Arrested at Schiavo Hospice
NEPA News and AP ^ | March 29, 2005 | AP

A professor at a Bible college near Scranton, Pa., was arrested Tuesday as he tried to storm into the hospice caring for Terri Schiavo.

Dow Pursley, 56, was zapped with a Taser stun gun and tackled to the ground by officers before he reached the door, Pinellas Park police said. He became the 47th protester arrested.

Pursley, who is on the faculty of the Baptist Bible College & Seminary in Clarks Summit, Pa., had two bottles of water with him, police said. He was charged with attempted burglary and resisting arrest.

Baptist Bible College officials said in a written statement that Pursley was not acting on the school's behalf and had traveled to Florida on his personal time.

"He is a dedicated man with strong beliefs and God-given convictions," the statement said.

Pursley is the clinical director of counseling programs for the theological college's graduate school. He also helps oversee a campus clinic that offers psychological counseling based on biblical teaching.

Baptist Bible College spokesman Mark Robbins said that while the college "believes in the sanctity of life," it has not taken an official position on the Schiavo case.

Doctors said that Schiavo, 41, would probably die within a week or two after the tube was removed on March 18. She suffered catastrophic brain damage in 1990 when her heart stopped for several minutes because of a chemical imbalance.

"He broke the law."

Any human law that prevents a disabled woman from drinking water is an insult to the word "law"; laws are written to protect people, not to murder the innocent with.

I can only say that they are following orders that have no objective standing as law, as the orders are intrinsically evil.

I agree. If Mr. Churchill's now famous epithet were ever applicable, this would be the case, no disrespect intended for your sons, and other LEO's who would know what to do, Sinkspur.

"The problem is that 5,000 more people should have walked with him at the same time."

With Jeb Bush leading them.

If it goes to trial I like to be on the jury.

The right honorable Justice Greer could give new meaning to a hung jury.

I hope the foolishness here does not escalate into stupidity.

We have keyboard jockeys who sat on their butts for two years and did absolutely nothing to push the Florida legislature to put in place a law that would have prevented the terrible situation we see today.

Laws are changed by legislators, not by hot dogs deciding which laws they will observe, and which they will not.

The local bishop himself should have showed up on Easter Sunday with food, water, and Holy Communion (risking arrest as well if necessary).

I agree.

Remember though, even Peter denied Our Lord. Imagine THAT crime. An innocent in the most absolute sense of the word DIED on the Cross and Peter denied Him.

Gov. Bush is making both a moral and political mistake, but I cannot bring myself to scream at him. He will have to live with this, just as Peter did. I hope he is doing God's Will and I am thankful I am not in his shoes tonight.

Stay in the pot and cook if you want. Some of the rest of us find the temperature a bit hot.

Get thee to Florida, then.

Has this whole damned board gone crazy? Advocating lawlessness is not the solution to anything!

I wonder why Jesus didn't make a spectacle of Himself storming the gates of courts that were handing down underserved sentences?

Jesus didn't do that because he knew it was preordained by God the Father that he would die for our sins.

The manner of the messiah's persecution and death was forecast by the prophets of the Old Testament; and Jesus was aware of what was to come.

Terri, OTOH, is not Jesus. According to Christian belief, as I understand it, we have already been saved by the one and only sacrifice necessary for our redemption.

Of course, Terri IS being sacrificed --but at the altar of New Age-ism (read: paganism), led by its spiritual leader George Soros Felos.

The man knew it would not help Terri.

I don't know that and he probably didn't know that...God may work on the kop's hearts and allow someone to get thru...If we're going to pray for a miracle, may as well be ready for one...

This is just ridiculous. Retarded. Barbaric.

It is ABOMINATION.

ALL THE PRIESTS of the diocese should have come together WITH the bishop to risk arrest to bring her the Holy sacraments of Our Lord and food, water, and proper medical and legal AUTHORITIES. Including JEB. In fact, the bishop should ORDER Jeb to show up in person!

Dear sinkspur,

"Advocating lawlessness is not the solution to anything!"

Contrary to their own high self-opinions, the judges are not the law. The law is the law.

The orders of the murderer greer are not lawful. To enforce them is to engage in lawlessness.

The police who are enforcing them are not even enforcing orders that are lawful on the surface, as they do not only require the cessation of artificial means of feeding and hydration, but even normal means.

These police refused to obey the ACTUAL LEGAL ORDERS of the governor of the state, as the state police tried to enforce them. It is THESE police who are the lawless ones, as is the rest of the American judiciary.

"...false arrest." ? ? ?

Haven't read down through this lon-n-g thread yet; but on the off-chance that someone else hasn't given the legal definition of "burglary", here's what you'll find in Black's Law Dictionary :

Burglary. At common law, the crime of burglary consisted of a breaking and entering of a dwelling house of another in the nighttime with the intent to commit a felony therein. The modern statutory definitions of the crime are much less restrictive. For example, they commonly require no breaking and encompass entry at all times of all kinds of structures. In addition, certain state statutes classify the crime into first, second, and even third, degree burglary.

A person is guilty of burglary if he enters a building or occupied structure, or separately secured or occupied portion thereof, with purpose to commit a crime therein, unless the premises are at the time, open to the public or the actor is licensed or privileged to enter. It is an affirmative defense to prosecution for burglary that the building or structure was abandoned. Model Penal Code, § 221.1.

Offering a drink of water to a helpless, dying woman is not unlawful behavior. Never was, never will be. The insanity resides on the other side of this struggle. God will judge.
