It should be encouraged by physicians that adults do so. Whatever mechanisms are currently involved, a person's wishes regarding their treatment in critical situations should be inserted into their medical records and coverage. Hence, there would be no confusion running around looking for a piece of paper in their residence. Or in the event where a hostile spouse anxious for life insurance money attempts to fake a living will.

People who find themselves in the tragic situation of hostile marriages should notify a competent attorney and set in writing their reasons for fearing possible bodily harm from their spouse. In the event where the spouse has already committed acts of violence or threatened such, some other family member should be given power of attorney on medical issues.
