I don't know enough about this guy to make a guess at his mental processes...maybe he just ran across the word "lycanthrope" recently and wanted to use it of someone, whether it made any sense or not.

Wolfman Jack died in 1995. Maybe Novak can stake out a claim to be Wolfman Bob.
