So every legal eagle that defends a person charged with murder and gets them acquitted should burn in hell? Clarify please.
I've no doubt OJ had something to do with what he was charged with, but the fact remains that the State of California made an absolute hash of the case against Simpson. The evidence protocols left wide open chances for the possibility that the evidence may have been compromised, and the prosecution did utterly stupid things in court (Hey!...put these gloves on...they're meant to be tight and form fitting, so put these other gloves on underneath them and see if they still fit!).
Johnnie was the kind of lawyer, face it, that any of us would wish would be there when we needed him.
I was going to write something ignorant about George Felos here, but it was a beautiful day here in Toronto and I'm not going to bother crapping it up.

Fortunately, Cochrans people say his condition is not life threatening, and his friends think hell be back on the docket in no time. Grace insisted, He will charm the nurses, the doctors, the illness, he can charm a bird out of a tree. ************************************
Pretty rapid demise.....could have been a fast moving cancer.

No wonder people think that racism runs wild on this site. California put up totally incompetent lawyers in the OJ trial. Marcia Clark and Darden were worse than useless. I guess free republic people only believe in a certain legal system. Much like a lynch mob.

"Remember the image on CNN of the glorious celebration at an all-black college at the moment the verdict was announced?"
I was in college, in the "screw around" room, watching TV, as the verdict was being read live. You're spot on. Half of the people in front of the TV started jumping up and down, slapping high-5's, when the words "not guilty" were spoken. The other half of the room just stared at each other. I was in the latter group.

Although I think he did great damage during the OJ trial, may his soul rest in peace.
In typical Cochran-ease, he might have been thinking this before he departed ---
If those were OJ's gloves and hat

I lost a measure of respect for Johnnie in the Simpson case when he played the race card as Shapiro said, "From the bottom of the deck". It always seemed to me the he alone made race the overriding issue in the case - and divided much of the voyeuristic country. Having said that, everyone is entitled to a strong defense and he certainly provided that - as measured by the result.
I hope he at peace with the Lord.
As for FReepers "dancing on the grave" phenomenon - it seems to me that unless we have a Clinton, or a Reno, or a Kerry to vent upon, we really do eat our own and put on our ugly faces. I'm quite confident that no one on this forum knew the private Johnnie Cochran, yet so many pass judgement and rejoice in his death. Unbecoming, it really is.
