GGG Ping.

Remember that 5,300 year old Oetzi (The Iceman), had tattoos. His tattoos were located at acupuncture points and is causing scientists to re-think the origins of acupuncture. The copper ax found with Oetzi pushed the copper age back by 1,000 years.

And I thought destroying your body was just a recent act of stupidity. I guess those bad genes never got removed.

"The discovery was made on three mummies – two that used to be female bodies and one male body "

Used to be female bodies? Is this a case of post-mortem transexualism or poor English?

Thanks Blam. As someone who's never shy about making conjectures, I'd say the tattoo -- used as tribal or familial identification as well as decoration -- probably has origins far older than this, but obviously this is very very unlikely to ever be confirmed by actual surviving mummified flesh.
