'Vigilantes' set for Mexico border patrol By Laura Smith-Spark BBC News
Some 580,000 illegal immigrants were detained in Arizona last year From 1 April, groups of volunteers from across the US will spend up to a month camped out in the inhospitable Arizona desert.
But this is no ordinary hunting or camping trip.
Armed with night vision goggles, radios and light aircraft, their quarry are the hundreds of immigrants who each night seek illegally to cross the wire fence separating the US from Mexico.
While the volunteers insist they will simply "observe" the new arrivals' movements and alert the US Border Patrol, human rights groups fear the eruption of vigilante violence.

Thumbs up for the "vigilantes"!!!!
Wooo Hoooo Go "vigilantes"
But this is no ordinary hunting or camping trip.
Step lightly FRiend!!! STEP LIGHTLY!!!
The "human rights" groups (aka - supporters for illegal entry into the U.S.) ought to assist the border patrols and minutemen; or get the hell out of the United States of America!
Vigilante: a member of a vigilance committee
Vigilance Committee: a volunteer committee of citizens organized to surpress and punish crime summarily (as when the processes of law appear inadequate)
Armed with night vision goggles, radios and light aircraft, their quarry are the hundreds thousands of illegal immigrants who each night seek illegally to cross the wire fence separating the US from Mexico.
Well, the news is spreading. All of the pre-event hype is just that - hype, hot air. The truth will be known afterwards whether this was vigilantism or patriotism. Of course, I'm coming down on the side of the latter.
Down with "human rights groups" UP WITH VIGILANTES!!!!
They aren't Vigilantes, they are "Undocumented Border Patrol Agents"
(author unkown)
"Vigilantes" is derived from those who were members of "vigilance committees" (in the Old West IIRC). They were formed because there was either NO law to protect the citizens or 'the Law' was so far away that in effect that there was no 'law'.
And that sure appears to be the case along the border, but not that there's 'no law' per se, but that 'the law' REFUSES to protect the citizens.
Quote: "While the volunteers insist they will simply "observe" the new arrivals' movements and alert the US Border Patrol, human rights groups fear the eruption of vigilante violence."
What this really should say is: "While the voulunteers insist they will simply "observe" the new arrivals' movements and alert US Border Patrol, human rights groups will characterize any action taken by the volunteers as being violent."
Did anyone notice this article came out of the U.K.? And those twits have got us referring to our brothers and sisters as vigilantes?
I prefer to think of them as Hero's and Heroines!
To the U.K. - You'll always be second class...
Do we have "EYES" on the front line, possibly equipped with a laptop with wireless internet access to report in real-time?
To paraphrase Vicente Bush, "they're doing the jobs American politicians won't do".
"Vigilantes" - Only doing the job the government doesn't want to do.
Yes. You can read about them near the top of The American Patrol Report. I think they are also soliciting donations and having a contest for the best photos.
If the government would police the border like it is supposed to we would not have this vigilante problem.
