Praise the LORD!! This is what we have been praying would happen in the Middle East!

May God, through the power of His Holy Spirit help spread the GOOD NEWS of the love of Jesus Christ to this once dark region!

Thanks for the ping, Quix!

Not 'common knowledge'.......common error.

All who claim the Name of Christ, are not His followers.

Secular historians would like you to believe that these things were done by true Christians, but they were not.

Are you really considering Hitler a Christian?

Lots of people consider themselves Christian because they were born in America.

Being in a garage doesn't make you a car.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT POINT. THX.

Also, EVEN THE TRUTHS OF CHRISTIANITY as a RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD paradigm

CAN BECOME A DEADLY RELIGION when God is lost into a man manipulated and 'worked' philosophy of control etc.

Historically Christians have tried, tortured, hung and burned alive vast numbers of people because they were suspected of heresy, Judaism, Witchcraft…; slashed off people’s heads on public streets for not confessing that Jesus Christ was God; and condemned the works of some of histories greatest scientists, theologians, philosophers and artists.

So has every other group of human beings on the planet, whether the group is religious, political or otherwise, except maybe the Quakers. And I'm not sure about them

Not sure if you meant to imply otherwise, but the violence done by Christians does not have its cause in Christianity. Humans do this to each other all the time--it's a species thing--and of we course invoke the highest values of our respective cultures to justify our actions. I've seen rival groups of Buddhist monks beat the crap out of each other.

"...I study the history of christianity so I do contend to know something about it. Some of the points you make are not incorrect. If you think that reading an account of the lives of a few Christians can change my realistic view of the history of christianity you are wrong..."

You can STUDY the history of "christianity" all you want. I've met Theologians who haven't a clue as to the person of CHRIST. There are believers and there are those who claim to be believers. Two entirely different concepts. One involves thinking you know something about Christianity because you've study it's history. The other involves a personal relationship with the person of Christ.

If I studied a French cookbook I would know something about French cooking but it wouldn't make me a French chef.

These are not claims. For those of us who study the history of Christianity it is common knowledge, but I am sure you knew that.Hardly.

I have studied history my entire life and have found most such claims to be totally bogus.

Most "forced conversions" by the way, were perpetrated by nominal Christian tyrant kings who wanted the unifying power of a single religion among their people. Of course, that was in fashion until about the 11th century.

And the charge that Christianity has, at any time, hindered scientific progress is absurd on it's face. Or maybe it's just an accident that the overwhelming amount of scientific progress in world history has been achieved in western Christendom over the past thousand years.

What an EXTREMELY IMPORTANT

and accurate-to-life observation, truth.

Thanks tons.

Zimbardo, PhD writes an excellent intro to Psych text. He's famous for the prison experiment where during a holiday period, he randomly assigned students paid for the experiment to GUARDS or PRISONERS roles.

The only instruction was something like TO KEEP ORDER or something else fairly mildly worded like that. I think the experiment was scheduled to run for a couple of weeks but had to be shut down after a few days.

The guards became ruthless and viscious--even former prisoners who were switched to be guards became similarly.

Zimbardo noted, in reminding the reader about the War Crimes trials after WWII that after an exhaustive bunch of tests, the findings were conclusive. The worst war criminals were . . . . . essentially . . . . .

NO

different from the average citizen.

And that that was more frightening. It's one thing if the MONSTERS are OUT THERE. We can gang up on them.

It's quite different, if THE MONSTER is within each one of us.

Which is what THE GOSPEL is about. Christ died to prove He won over the monster of sin pollution within each individual since Adam. Apart from Christ's Blood and forgiveness from accepting The Blood's application/covering; and Holy Spirit's helping us become more like Christ and leave sin's deadliness increasingly behind

all

of

us

given the right circumstances and background,

could do virtually any deadly, horrid, hideously destructive thing.

Perhaps, DollarC would be wise to consider his own heart attitude toward God and others

MORE

and the sins of hypocrite others less.

And, as a teen pastor used to say . . . IF a hypocrite is between you and God, he's closer to God than you are.

Mr Dollar will not have to give an account for the deadly deeds of others. He will have his hands full with his own life to answer for, as will we all.

Thankfully, The Blood of Christ is a thorough Cleanser--legally, spiritually and slowly experientially.

Yup.

And, it's been rightly postulated, imho,

that apart from the Judeo/Christian values and paradigm, the scientific method would not have developed.

It required a concept of reality and a God that could be objectively studied--that there were RIGHT and WRONG ways to do things to reach certain goals.

If I studied a French cookbook I would know something about French cooking but it wouldn't make me a French chef.

Oh, EXCELLENT analogy, pizzalady!

Learning ABOUT Christianity from secular anti-Christian historians doesn't give you an inkling of the truth of the person of Jesus Christ, and HE is the one whose love is now being spread throughout the Middle East.
