News Advisory:

-- Local Activists, Rep. Anthony Weiner Call on ABC's Good Morning America to Drop Wal-Mart as Sponsor

-- Demonstration Organized for Tuesday in Front of Good Morning America's Studio

In front of ABC's Good Morning America (GMA) studio, local activists, community leaders, and Congressman Anthony Weiner will call on ABC's News President David Westin to immediately drop Wal-Mart as the sponsor of GMA's patriotic-themed "Only in America" series. The demonstration against Wal-Mart will take place on Tuesday, March 29 at 7 a.m., at the corner of 44th street and Broadway, North Side (right outside the Toys R US at Times Square). Congressman Weiner will be delivering a prepared statement at 7:30 a.m.

WHAT: Demonstration and Rally in front of Good Morning America Studios - calling on ABC news to drop Wal-Mart as Sponsor.

WHO: Anthony Weiner, Congressman and NYC Mayoral Candidate

DATE: Tuesday, March 29

TIME:

7-8 a.m. (Community Demonstration)

7:30 a.m. (Congressman Weiner's delivers prepared statement)

WHERE: Corner of 44th street and Broadway, North Side, (right outside the Toys R US at Time Square)

BACKGROUND:

The "Wake-Up Wal-Mart" project brings together an array of community leaders who are determined to raise public awareness about the real Wal-Mart record. The demonstration against Wal- Mart's sponsorship of the Good Morning America "Only in America" series is in response to the real facts about Wal-Mart. Specifically, Wal-Mart imports between 50 and 85 percent of its merchandise. In fact, "80 percent of the six thousand factories in Wal-Mart's worldwide database of suppliers are in China."

The sponsorship rights to the "Only in America" series is a blatant attempt to mislead ABC viewers and consumers into believing that Wal-Mart reflects American values and favors American-made products. A petition released just days ago demanding Westin drop Wal-Mart as the sponsor of the series has received more than thirteen thousand signatures.

None--not a one.

The closest there is in Valley Stream, which I believe is Carolyn McCarthy's district

I'm so sick of this anti-capitalist drivel. Make no mistake, Wal-Mart IS THE symbol of American capitalism, and lefties hate American capitalism!

Wal-Mart is not stupid (as evidenced by their sheer size and profitability). When they have offered more expensive, American-made goods, the higher priced goods DIDN'T SELL. Consumers SAY they want American-made, but when they look at a $12 t-shirt made in Ohio vs. a $5 shirt made in China, they buy the $5 shirt nearly every time.

The unionists want millions of us to pay more for our goods so that a few thousand of them can make high wages.

What's this? The evil capitalists at Walmart are selling goods that their customers choose to buy?

Has the Central Committee for Shopping Mall Planning and Distribution been informed?

Maybe they can get G.U.M. as a sponsor.

That company that makes coffee makers in China, and then sells them to walmart is an American owned company for goodness sake!

I broke my coffee pot from the cheap coffee maker I had previously bought at walmart, so I went to buy another carafe, but they wanted 20 bucks for it. Cheap coffee makers were on sale for $12 complete. God bless wal-mart for good cheap products.

Business reports usually say "The USA imports etc.",,so I guess Walmart etc. didn't/don't import anything do they?

Remember the reason that these products are not made in the USA is pretty simple, they would be much more expensive at the shelf. To manufacture these products in the USA there is a cost disadvantage of 25-40% before anything even begins to be produced. These extra costs are payments to: Politicians/Bureaucrats (taxes, entitlements...)
Lawyers (litigation, licensing...)
Regulators (EPA, Envro-wacks, Unions...)
Health care (Doctors, Insurance, Lawyers...).
In other words these are nonproductive costs that decrease jobs, investment, standard of living and freedom for Americans. The Chinese don't have the same costs, plus the wages and cost of living are much less.

We seem to be approaching a crossroads. If we want to continue on our regulated down, socialist, worker's paradise.. we simply can't compete with China. And should drop out of the world economy, handing over control to the Chicoms.

Or we are going to have to stop this bs at every part of our system. For example health care costs are out of control, but the doctors are so entrenched they simply will not allow more doctors to be trained. Turning away 75% of the applicants last year... and putting pretty ridiculus requirements, like you need 10 years of schooling to perscribe a simple medication.

But of course its not just hte doctors, its almost every segment of our economy. When we are just competing against even more socialist nations then ourselves, we could afford to be as inefficient as we wanted. Making sure all hte insiders, like the union goons, regulators, politicians, professional associations.. got a healthy cut on all work done.

GO AWAY, UNION TROLL!!

LOL, I'm not a troll, if you search my name and posts you'll see that. In fact I'm sickened by the article. If you see the union at the bottom of the page ufcw, it was the union I HAD TO join in order to work for my previous employer. They stunk, as they are not a true union in the sense that they help their members, they're a company union, which means when you ask for help in the end they side with the employer not the employee. They didn't mind taking my dues though and giving them to Kerry and every Dem they support without asking the members how they want their dues spent either.
