If there exist emails planning this, the feds should be able to have it easily.

I suspect the FBI is only interested in rounding up any disgruntled, middle-aged, white, males to whom the Wiese kid might have sent an E-Mail.

Catching the chief's son in the mess is just a sop to those who think the responsibility might well belong to the fellow who did the shooting.

Weise, a self-described loner who was on anti-depressants and had had a troubled family life, was a prolific writer whose postings were scattered across numerous Internet discussion forums and chat groups. They ranged from his flirtation with neo-Nazism to writing short stories about zombies to discussions about Bigfoot.

I wonder if Weise read Ward's crap along the way?

Here's a 'little eichmann' that grew up on the reservation.

This bunch of Indians is pretty mixed. I recognize names of Meti as well as Oneida, and Brotherton in the various articles discussing the victims and their relatives.

Ward Churchill probably didn't have any influence here.

Sorry, Norm...

He grew up in the "cities" until his dad commited suicide and then his mother crashed drunk and was left in a nursing home. He was then sent to live with his only relatives on the RL res.

Culture shock? You Bet!

Right you are.

Put yourself in this kids place.

Visit RL and then put yourself in this kids place.

Yes, he was evil.

I could never do what he did.

But....Why???????

Thank you for that info, I mispoke,,

dad offed himself, momdrunkandcrashed,, That's a run of bad luck, for sure.

life in the 'cities' was never too easy either as I recall back in the 60s and 70s. I guess the 80s and 90s didn't get much better.

I also know what its like living in a small community in the boonies in Northern MN after living in the city. it is a major culture shock as you said,,

But there are so many stars at night, it makes ya appreciate nature a bit more at that point.. that and wolves

The res is not the cities.

He was thrown into a shitty, hopeless.......

I can't even find the words for what the RL res is about.

Yes, he's guilty.

But how can this be avoided, down the road?

I couldn't imagine the res side of life in that case.

I never made it all the way to Red Lake, but I know the Cass Lake, Bemidji areas a bit.

But he had the internet. he wasn't completely isolated. in a couple of years he could have moved. it's a shame, and how many more were aware of his 'plan'.

I don't know what exacty can be done either, except that a lot of folks missed obvious red flags, and those folks who heard him talking aout violence should have alerted authorities,, the meds he was on probably didn't help much either.

We will probably soon learn how many more. You wonder. If somehow knew about his plans, would anything really have worked? He was already at a home detention level. The school had a guard and metal detector. What more would they have done?

Cass will give you a good look at what it's all about.

He was a kid. He lived where he could. You can't just pack up and move when you're 8.

Red Flags? You Bet!

The res needs to open up and call for help.

some students had said Weise had intimated last year that he planned some sort of violent act at the school last April, but they said they didn't tell school officials or other authorities about it because they didn't take him seriously

Nobody takes anything seriously.

Kids are much more isolated from adult authority than they used to be IMHO. Due to the legalistic approach to human interaction in today's society, teachers are very stand-offish from the kids, I think, and the kids end up in a "floating world" which is transparent to the adults whose interaction with them is purely formal. This has come about because the adults are prohibited from acting on their own judgement.

Actually "Smoke Signals" is a very fine movie, produced and directed by Indians and all the cast is Indian too. A truly Indian movie. It won several awards including the Sundance Film Festival. Get it on Tape or DVD.
