Who is Terri Schiavo

WASHINGTON - She was a girl who laughed easily at her uncle's lame jokes. A girl so naive that she wrote to John Denver, asking him to come sing at her wedding, who went to Disney World for her honeymoon and believed that a good life meant that one day she'd be able to vacation there every year with her kids.

She was a girl who loved animals and worshiped cute television stars, paying homage to heartthrobs Starsky and Hutch by naming two gerbils after them. She daydreamed about working for a veterinarian when she grew up, or maybe just being a dog groomer.

So show me your timeline. A timeline is generally not something that can be "interpreted". NONE of my information comes from the Schindlers, though some of the court docs I've referenced are posted the terrisfight.org website as they are indexed and easy to locate. My comments are not based on "suspicions" but on court documents, sworn testimony and independent reporters following the case. However, I would love some verification of "data" the Schindlers "manipulated" and of their being "extremely controlling". Considering THEY have had to petition the courts for visitation rights and Terri's medical records after Michael has refused them access, evidence of the Schindler's extreme control seems in rather short supply. Below you can find the resources I used to "interpret" the facts I presented. As you can see, none comes from statements made by either Michael or Terri's parents, since both points of view are colored by their personal involvement in this sad tragedy. I trust the "data" and "timeline" you used to reach your "interpretation" don't have the taint of first person bias. If they do, you need to do more research, instead of "choosing" a side to believe and a side to disbelieve.

My information about Cindy Shook is from her deposition, you can find excerpts here: http://hyscience.typepad.com/hyscience/2005/02/michael_schiavo_1.html. Her "timeline" is supported by documents showing they vacationed together at a motel and contacted a real estate agent about purchasing a house (not generally something one does with someone one only has a casual relationship with).

*bump* Nice summary.

It is blatantly obvious that the vocal pro-death camp is twisting facts. Posts like yours expose that.

Again and again, the courts recognize that she is a woman who has been in a "persistent vegetative state" since the day she suffered heart failure 15 years ago.

My understanding is that only Judge Greer made that factual determination; all subsequent rulings just addressed any errors of law. And I agree with you about the conflict of interest... no Judge would appoint a lawyer to represent someone if the lawyer had a conflict of interest of that magnitude. Yet Michael Schiavo is given the power of life and death over his wife without regard to his conflict?

"...But Auschwitz was only the last, most perfect Nazi killing center. The entire killing enterprise had started in January 1940 with the murder of the most helpless human beings, institutionalized handicapped patients."

"Reichsleader Bouhler and Dr. Brandt M.D. are charged with the responsibility of enlarging the authority of certain physicians to be designated by name in such a manner that persons who according to human judgement can upon most careful diagnosis of their condition of sickness be accorded a mercy death.
Signed - A. Hitler".

From the form letter sent to relatives of the victims:

"In view of the nature of his serious, incurable ailment, his death, which saved him from a life long institutional sojourn, is to be regarded merely as a release."

Cordially,

Unless, of course, you would agree that he is lying, and Terri neither said that she wanted to die- which would make him a perjurer

I'm sure you, and all the rest have been in situations where people in this condition want to die- they give up.

11 days without food and water and she's still living- honesty sho, can't you feel in your heart that she's telling you something?

Grace, you're right.

But now isn't the time to go over the injustice! Now we have to fight to save Terri. Please support my efforts that I have posted repeatedly on this Board, about the formation of a bi-opartisan MERCY COALITION. WE get enough Dem's like Jackson, Lieberman, Nader, Harkin- this will work.

Even Barney Frank doesn't really want her to die, because he has a genuine liberal concern about the handicapped.

The problem is we have made this into a political battle let's undo that now. Stop fighting the past. Appeal to all people of compassion of any persuasion. Let's do this for Terri.

She's a vegetable

There is no duty for any right thinking person to accept the absurd proposition that Mary Schindler gave birth to a (female?) vegetable named Terri, which had the capablity to act as a human being. The notion that any offspring of human parentage is not a human being is, on it's face, self-refuting and insane.

"And furthermore, the whole idea of all the flowers and piped-in music for her is totally creepy...it's the funeral before she's actually died!!"

The irony of this is that her demon-husband would not allow music, flowers or pets into her darkened, sun deprived room before her feeding tube was pulled.

He did not get her wheel chair fixed and did not permit anyone to take her outdoors into the sunshine.

He has done everything he could to demean her and make her suffer.

One day he will face eternity and I hope he suffers the same Hell that he put Terri through.

Pulling the plug---as in machine, ie resp not feeding tube. Big difference. All she needed was food and water, just like the rest of us
