Ridicule it all you like, but the first part of the theory at least makes sense. Lebanon and Syria have been thorns in the side of Israel for some time now. The assassination will probably cause regime change in both countries. Even if it doesn't Syria's clout in the Middle East will have been reduced significantly.
I don't quite see what Syria planned to achieve if they were the culprits.

There are also strong indications that the Hariri assassination was carried out by the same rogue Syrian intelligence agents used in the 2002 car bombing assassination of Lebanese Christian leader Elie Hobeika, who was prepared to testify against Sharon in a Brussels human rights court. That case involved the Israeli Prime Minister's role in the 1982 massacre by Israeli troops of Palestinian refugees at the Sabra and Chatilla camps in Beirut.
The guy who wrote this is a crank! Israeli troops didn't massacre, it was Lebanese Phalangist Christians under precisely Elie Hobeika.
Sharon even came to the U.S. and won a libel case against Time Magazine for reporting that Sharon knowingly cooperated with the Phalangists.
So don't start speculating and theorizing based on the hack who wrote the article.
