Why do only city workers have a guarateed pension and the rest of us who pay for it have to catch as catch can?

Why do only city workers have a guarateed pension and the rest of us who pay for it have to catch as catch can? It is not just city workers.Just about all public employees,from municipalities to county workers and public education employees are on the very generous and poorly managed NYS retirement system which didn`t protect itself from the bubble burst.It is underfunded now to meet promised benefits that were given out in the 90s.Between this and Medicaid/child,family health plus just about every upstate county is close to bankrupt.

I agree. I have a big family and the only ones in it with a pension are the 4 or 5 employed by the Federal and State governments.
Something real wrong here.

I am 47 and I have been working since I was 15.....
I admit that I spent alot of money on drugs, alcohol and women......
and I pissed away what was left!!
I served Honorably in Uncle Sam's Canoe Club!!
And I voted for both Presidents named George.
I call that a good American.......

Something akin to public servants making out better than the public they serve. As far as NY though, with all the manufacturing base dissappearing those of us still living here get to pick up the ever increasing tab. This is the greatest state to live in as long as you don't work or work for the government.
