Separation of Powers. Jeb can't step in. The legislature has to, and that process involves a timeline that will not be short enough to save Mrs. Schiavo.

This case can serve as a lesson, but they can't save her, not legally. If the executive can change the law on a whim, everyone will need to watch out. What if a Democrat gets elected again? He/she could be empowered by what goes on in this case to do things no one here would want to permit, but the precedent would be set.

And we'd ALL be screwed.

That's the thing - GREER is changing the law by ordering no one to feed her orally. And the executive sections of the FL constitution give the governor the power to intervene if any public officer is acting in violation of the law.

Separate, sure, but EQUAL.
