Perhaps she wasn't an official member of a church? Or she had attended a couple of different ones to find her church home and that led to the situation of her not having an 'official' pastor, preacher,minister, priest or Rabbi.
Yes perhaps she was a backslider like some of us are.
Perhaps her husband being Lutheran and domineering didn't permit the opportunity to attend church.
