When I was a kid the "religious adviser" was called the Preacher.

Going to a church with out a Preacher or Minister or Priest or Rabbi must be quite an experience.

I would say 'most' Catholics do not have a personal spiritual adviser. They probably did years ago in the form of a confessor, but that time has long passed. Also, it is not uncommon for younger people to slack off on religious observance and as they mature they come to appreciate the need for a spiritual touchstone.
