I don't understand the resentment towards the Bush's . What more could they have done, send in the Marines. Thank you for comitment for this very important cause.

And the marines go in and shoot at Florida state enforcement?

I think people are just angry. The Bushes have done everything possible.

I don't understand the resentment towards the Bush's .

Emotions can make people irrational. I saw someone blame Ann Coulter for Terri's situation on one of these threads a few days ago.

President Eisenhower didn't hesitate to send in federal troops to Little Rock in 1957 to protect black students from being lynched, and the state and local governments AND law enforcement were openly defying the Constitution and the law of the land.

48 years later, President Bush and Governor Bush could have at least done as much to save Terri Schiavo's life.

They did not.

The Bush brothers, in this struggle, have emasculated both themselves and the offices they hold by not protecting the civil rights of their citizens. When the story of the tyrannical and imperial judiciary is told, the Bush brothers will be prominently featured--on the wrong side.

I don't know what Jeb could have legally done.

But George Bush should, as I've devoted a previous thread to insisting, have sent in a large force of Federal Marshalls to take Terri into protective custody the MINUTE congress supoeaned her as a witness. This was within his authority and George Greer could have gone and pounded sand.

While he waited for the courts to approve (disapproving, as they could be expected to do) his prerogatives diminished.
It is always better to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

I don't understand the resentment toward the Bush's.....

Maybe you might understand it better if you could put YOURSELF in the same position as the Schindlers. Please try and imagine if this was YOUR daughter! Try to imagine if it was the PRESIDENT'S daughter. What do you think he would do then? Would he just say, "Oh well, I guess there is nothing I or anyone else can do, we'll just have to accept Judge Greer's defiance on the law that Congress just passed and I signed, and get along with the business of Social Security reform"? Doubt it. The Schindlers deserve exactly the same consideration, EXACTLY!!

Amazing how many people are avoiding this question, when it is posed to them. Why are they afraid to answer? If they really believed it was the right solution for their and everyone else's daughter, why not have the courage to just say so? Could it be that they know that it would not go over too well? And why wouldn't it? I believe that this is the clearest way to view this.

It has always been a luxury for all of us to go through life believing that we are moral, and that if the time should come that reqires us to demonstrate same, that we would act. Truth is, is that we seldom have these situations come up that demand proof.

This, though, is one of them. That is why so many are so uncomfortable with this, and why so many others are rising to the occasion!

I (foolishly?) remain hopeful that the president or the governor will step in and do what they would undoubtedly do for their own.
