I have a somewhat odd question.
I keep seeing Michael referred to as a "Sicilian".
I've never heard of any Italian names that begin with "Sch", only German ones.
What makes everyone believe he's Sicilian?
[and I'm married to a Sicilian who grew up in a nice "family" neighborhood in Federal Hill/Providence RI and he's never heard of an Italian with "Sch" at the beginning of their name, either]
This odd little detail keeps nagging at me.
Anybody got any insight?
My mom, a native Italian, says Schiavo (skee.a.vo) means "slave" in Italian. We don't know where he is from, but she is horrified he is Italian.
He doesn't look like any Sicilian I've ever seen-- he looks like an Aryan agent of death.
Schiavo
ethnic name from schiavo Slav.
habitational name from Schiavo in Ardore, Reggio Calabria.
