I am sure that the tube was removed for two reasons -

1) To prohibit any "illegal" administration of liquid, and

2) so that the uninformed will believe that she was only alive because she was connected to something. Hence, the expression "pulling the plug."

Any terminal patient would not undergo an unnecessary procedure to remove the tube. It would just be clamped and removed as part of the post mortem procedures.
