At least here in Michigan, a Blue state BTW, Jack the Dripper was convicted of murder, and then given the maximum sentence the state allows by courageous Judge Jessica Cooper.
At the sentencing, Judge Cooper told Jack the Dripper: "You did what you did and you dared the world to stop you. Well sir, consider yourself stopped."
I remember that. It was a simple but powerful statement.
