26 March 2005 -- Iraqi officials say Iraqi soldiers backed by U.S. helicopters captured at least 120 suspected militants in a raid just outside the Shi'a Muslim holy city of Kerbala early today.
Iraq's Defense Minister Hazim Sha'lan al-Khuza'i told Reuters news agency that several suspected insurgents were also killed in what he described as a "very successful" operation.
Explosives, car bombs, and rocket-propelled grenades were also reportedly seized.
There has been no confirmation of the raid from the U.S. military.
Al-Khuza'i suggested that the suspected militants were planning to attack Kerbala, which next week will draw hundreds of thousands of pilgrims for Arbain, a major Shi'a religious ceremony.

It's not original, but I don't remember who first posted it, so I can't give him/her credit. :o)
Doesn't matter WHO said it. It's right on.
Happy Easter, Carolinamom!
One for the good guys!! With our 24hr news channels you would think that someone has time for an indepth story? NAH! Michael Jackson walking into the court house is much more important.
The horror!
I think we ALL needed some good news today.
These guys will be screaming, and wishing, someone would put panties, on their heads and stack them in a pyramid! But Pravda U.S.A. wont report on that subject!
This is also a very good sign that the Iraqis "in the street" are trusting us more and more. Obviously someone who probably never helped before brought the information to our troops. Hopefully, more Iraqis will learn of this raid and how it came about, and this type of cooperation could become a trend as Iraqi trust continues to grow.
"captured at least 120 suspected militants in a raid just outside the Shi'a Muslim holy city of Kerbala..."
...the term "holy city" being just an expression in Islamic countries.
Torture them for intel; then kill them. Zero recividism.
Nah, just insert a RPG with an enhanced booster in each perp, and then start launching them up like fireworks, at random, one at a time in reasonably rapid succession. And set the whole thing so that they blow up at about 150-200 feet altitude.
