Maybe we should pray and ponder some more about doing that?

Nothing wrong with praying or pondering. I also, regarding other matters, spend a lot of time e-mailing, writing, and calling politicians, as well as talking to other people. (Never underestimate the power of just speaking up in public situations. Multiplied by millions doing the same thing, it changes minds.) I also call radio and TV stations to complain about their biased reporting (that usually goes over with a thud). In other words, I don't just pray.

I wish I could remember more precisely the C.S. Lewis quote I'm thinking of, but it has something to do with Christians now and then needing to have the humility to accept that they can't do it all and right every wrong -- even the wrong they themselves have done. Not in this world. You have to have the humility to accept that some things are in God's hands.

Is this it? I added some more I like. I am a CS Lewis fan. He helped to bring me back to God...

"No man knows how bad he is till he has tried very hard to be good...Only those who try to resist temptation know how strong it is...All this trying leads up to the vital moment at which you turn to God and say, 'You must do this. I can't. It is the change from being confident about our own efforts to the state in which we despair of doing anything for ourselves and leave it to God...(when) What we should have liked would be for God to count our good points and ignore our bad ones. " --Mere Christianity

"You never know how much you really believe anything until its truth or falsehood becomes a matter of life and death to you." --A Grief Observed

"Right actions done for the wrong reason do not help build the internal quality or character...We might think that God wanted simply obedience to a set of rules whereas He really wants people of a particular sort." --Mere Christianity
