As Terri Schiavo enters what are thought to be her last hours of life, allegations of political corruption and obstruction of justice on the part of state officials raise questions as to whether the brain-injured woman's court-ordered death by starvation might serve to cover up crimes committed against her.

Criminal probes launched by two Florida agencies looking into allegations the incapacitated woman was abused, neglected and exploited were reportedly shut down, despite investigators' concerns.

There's been a motion before Greer's court since 11/2 to have Michael removed as Terri's guardian - and there's never been any action on it.

I didn't know that. Why didn't they bring up all the issues of his abuse of Terri and push to get a hearing. Isn't the judge supposed to do something within a certain amount of time?

And .. who determined it wasn't presented in a "timely manner" - the court ..?? Judge Greer ..??

Precisely. IMHO, this crosses the line between withholding extraordinary measures and execution by starvation and thirst.

In this case, there is no cause for execution, hence, this is murder.

If Terri wants to live, she will make fast progress, provided she is capable at this point...

I question that too - having worked around a lot of courts - there are deadlines for everything. Perhaps he was hiding it and just allowing it to expire - or maybe it already has.

If this was in 2002, then there probably was a ruling on it.

That's very true. It's a total hornet's nest as far as I'm concerned.

OK--just thinking out loud here...if my reasoning is correct, what is to prevent, even obligate Bush to order the arrest of anyone who stands in the way of a nurse hydrating/feeding Terri by non-artificial means and who causes the nurse to be criminally liable of a dereliction of duty.

He, the law, and all of the reviewing courts.

I am afraid we are back to Greer, again. It strikes me as really strange that the worst possible outcome of Terri trying to take nutrition or liquids orally is that she could choke or drown.

Why forbid anyone to take a chance on her living or even dying quickly. Oh, no. This is a sure bet.

This flies in the face of the most common sense, which makes me see something sinister afoot.

It reminds me of the old saw: You can't sue the Devil, he owns all the lawyers.

So .. Greer was controlling what was accepted as evidence and what was not.

According to the article I read - it stands with several other motions which have also never been adjudicated. The report is an online newspaper called "The Empire Report" - I think - but at least I'm positive about the word Empire.

Greer has no authority to prevent her feeding/hydrating by non-artificial means. No one does. That's my point. He can only pull out the "artificial" tube.

And Greer is committing a crime if he is the one preventing her feeding/hydrating.

Actually, it is the director of the hospice who is acting criminally. The tube is pulled by court order; he has an obligation to see if she can take food/water by non-artificial means.

If there's anything to this, I don't expect to see it ever come out. Jeb certainly isn't going to push a criminal investigation that might expose corruption behind the killing of Terri -- because it would make him look all the worse for not acting to stop that killing....

If there is a criminal investigation, the Attorney General (if Florida has any sanity) can secure Terri Schiavo, by the principle of probable cause....
