Schiavo Case 'Grotesque' Exercise, Jack Germond Says
CNSNews.com ^ | March 25, 2005 | Randy Hall

Philadelphia (CNSNews.com) - Longtime nationally syndicated journalist Jack Germond called the struggle over the fate of Terri Schiavo a "grotesque, ridiculous exercise" on Friday, adding that the "nutty story" is a result of the "growing, staggering, frightening influence of religious organizations" in American politics.

Germond, author of the book "Fat Man in a Middle Seat: Forty Years of Covering Politics," made the comment during a speech entitled, "How Religion Bends Politics" during the 31st National Convention of American Atheists being held this weekend.

A self-proclaimed atheist, Germond also said the life-or-death battle over the brain-damaged Florida woman had become a "spectacle" in part due to the tendency of news channels on cable television to give equal weight to both sides of a story.

These channels "have a vested interest in keeping stories alive," Germond told his audience of about 100 people, "so they'll call up people who'll just go back and forth. I mean, [the Schiavo situation] is a nutty story. Some fundamentalist activist thinks there's been foul play, and he's never even seen the woman!"

I wonder if the popular Mr. Germond knows that George W. Greer has ALSO never seen Terri in person. I think Mr. Germond should clarify if he will later have need of a feeding tube, because the gentleman has apparently skipped few meals in his long life, just like the popular FL State Senator Jim King, R-Jacksonville, a self-proclaimed "Christian."

It isn't a religious spectacle but it sure as heck is a media spectacle.

Fri, 3/25/05: it's over.

They're intent upon killing Terri, and are beating us. They're winning. They own the judicial infrastructure, built over the past 4-5 decades. We don't have a chance. We're out-manned and out-gunned, this time.

Liberal-progressive-socialist-commie-nazi-subhuman-garbage-filth, are our masters. They own the MSM, local gov't, state gov't, all the courts, and ultimately: US.

Are you worried/scared/locking&loading, yet?

I am.

His book should have been titled "Big Fat Idiot in the Middle Seat"

I actually was surprised to see just how much vitriole, disdain, and hatred of Christians there is in this country.

It certainly has been visible in statements by politicians, pundits, lawyers, relatives of soon to be deceased women, and many others.

"How Religion Bends Politics"

90% of the American people believe there is a God (Old abortion debate poll). Not all practice worship, but the belief is there.
The athiest are the minority.

I don't think that Jack should be talking about grotesque. Man never missed a meal in his life.

I was listening to a talk show this morning (Handel on the law) and he has a website that listed articles of law and has a lot on this case. There is an awful lot in the links, so I haven't read it all yet. Handel was leaning in favor of the husband and he urged everyone to read the legal documents.

90% of the American people believe there is a God

And 100% of all demons. Meaningless.

They have great rage. The legions know they have but little time.

"grotesque, ridiculous exercise"

That would be referring to watching him do calisthenics

I've read the book and checked the ending. They lose.

Yeah. We got along so well for 200 years because religion didn't affect our politics. [/sarc]

The new influence isn't godliness, its godlessness.

What a genius we have reporting the "news." Is it any wonder the MSM commands so little respect?
