My God, we really are in a theocracy.
Are the Republicans so obsessed with maintaining control over all branches of governemnt that they are willing to turn the nation into a wholly owned subsidiary of the church?
The president, who couldnt be bothered to be dragged outside to talk about the more than one hundred thousand people who died in the horrific tsunami, was willing to be dragged out of bed to sign a bill about one women his base has fixated upon.
The scene on Capitol Hill this week has been almost as absurdly macabre as the film 'Weekend at Bernies,' with Tom Delay and Bill Frist propping up the poor woman in a vegetative state to indulge their own political agendas.
Mr. Delay, the poster child for ethical abuse, wanted to show that he is still the favorite of conservatives.
Dr. Frist thinks he can ace out Jeb Bush to be 44, even though he has become a laughingstock by trying to re-diagnose Ms. Schiavo by video.
When Senate Democrats like Hillary Clinton, who are trying to curry favor with red staters, meekly allowed the shameful congressional legislation to be enacted, at least some Florida House members decided to put up a fight, though they knew they couldn't win.
The president and his friends don't believe in seperation of powers. They believe in their own power.
First they tried to circumvent the Florida courts, now they are trying to pack the federal bench with trustworthy conservatives, and even blow up the filibuster rule.
But they may yet learn a lesson in checks and balances, as the federal courts rebuffed them in the Schiavo case.

If we are a theocracy, then I believe Maureen is the leading candidate for our Devil--nah, too important a role for her. Better yet--an Imp.
The Law failed Terri Schiavo. Perhaps now we can only hope she would have wanted it this way, we will never know for sure it looks like.
We can pray.
Maureen isnt mature enough to to be the devil, how about one of his evil minions?
A minion of Lucifer.
Maureen adds this quote in,
"This Republican Party of Lincoln has become a party of theocracy. There are going to be repercussions from this vote." Christopher Shays R

I used to make excuses for Maureen, to myself. A woman couldn't be that veinal, that jaundiced, that natsty. Now, I am repulsed by the... person. And, it makes me wonder, if a soul is something that everybody many not have.
I refuse to sign up to the NYT. Will you please post the quote where Dowd says Why won't that B---- die already?
Dowd hasn't been right since Mikey pulled the tube out of her.
'Why Wont that B--- Die Already'
Is she referring to Terri Shiavo or Catherine Zeta Jones?
He was elected to serve the AMERICAN people. We're not living in a one world government - yet!
Shays is a moron. And he's going to run for Governor. We had planned to move to Florida, but we're not doing that now.
Blah, blah, blah, does MoDo ever shutup?
Americans have been given magnificent abundance and beauty by GOD. Yet like the Jews wondering the desert, we complain and work to destroy our relationship with GOD.
I very rarely use this word and may get kicked off for it but Maureen Dowd is a super class Bitch. I hope some of you younger Freepers are still around when Maureen's feeding tube is removed. Remember me, and I'll be smiling somewhere.
