Bush Chooses New State Department Spokesman

CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - President Bush (news - web sites) has chosen a White House veteran to succeed Richard Boucher, who became a public face of U.S. Iraq (news - web sites) war policy, as the State Department's chief spokesman, the White House said on Thursday.

Bush will nominate Sean McCormack as assistant secretary of state for public affairs, which will make him one of the most visible mouthpieces for U.S. diplomacy.

McCormack, 40, served as spokesman for then-national security adviser Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites) and as deputy White House press secretary for foreign policy before Rice became secretary of state. He has also served in U.S. embassies in Algeria and Turkey.

It is customary for new secretaries of state to name their own spokesmen.

Boucher, the former ambassador to Cyprus and chief U.S. diplomat in Hong Kong, is a career diplomat who has been spokesman or deputy spokesman under six secretaries of state.

The State Department has yet to announce his future plans.

McCormack's nomination must still be confirmed by the Senate and a State Department spokeswoman said a date has yet to be set for him to take over Boucher's duties.

Fed up is right. Good thing the judges can't select the State Dept members.

Interesting that Reuters doesn't directly remind its readers of the fact that Boucher was spokesman under Clinton before seamlessly making the transition to spokesman under Bush.

Every where she goes the Arabs give her the finger. Are you kidding me?! She has the credibility of a woman in an Arab League meeting hall.

Doormats have more respect. At least they know when they are being walked on.

If it was Condi's idea for welfare-for-terrorists, I have to agree with you. I'll wait to see how it plays out.

Actually the one I was thinking about was telling Syria to back down and they stepped up the day after she left. Then we did NOTHING public!!! In the East they won a major victory, the terror regimes vastly strengthened their hold on power. Thanks Condi, you go girl, yelled Osama and Zarcoward.

The carp she spouts is regurgitated foolish liberal tripe "pay the killers punish the victim", (translated into Arabic: Women should wear burkas, for they are responsible for rape by being women)..Even if what she had to say was divine wisdom from the lips of God Himself, Arab Islamic leaders are not going to listen to the advice of a black woman. The very word for black skin in Arabic is slave. You cannot send a female "slave" to demand obedience from the Arab League, if they then obey, they loose all respect.

An Arab leader with no respect is a dead man walking, he is soon replaced with a man who can command respect.

It's ironic in a way, just as the West cannot fathom the ideology of a suicide bomber obtaining Paradise, the East cannot fathom the choice of America promising to surrender, if they will just commit suicide and rot in Hell!

The older I get, the stranger life seems...

The show must go on even if the audience has left the theater.
