After the horrors this week in Pinellas Co., FL, I have lost all interest in Social Security.
"We need to establish the role of government. We are compasionate conservatives. We care about the disabled and don't want runaway monopolistic capitalism. So the government needs some sort of role."
"Runaway monopolistic capitalism" sounds like something Fidel Castro would say. BTW, try being "compassionate" with your own money. Some of us evil capitalists think earning your money entitles you to keep it. Quaint notion I know, but there you have it.
As for private accounts, talk about an expansion of government. Best to move piecemeal at dismantling the current system, not further expanding it.
Nice work! Thanks!
What is very interesting to me is how relatively low rates of return can be used to achieve parity with the current system.
You could actually invest 70% of your money in I-bonds and get the same performance as the current system over a career time span.
AARP? Why? This does not affect you even though you want to make people think that it does.

Au contraire, mon frere! Their distortion of this issue serves to scare gullible seniors, which, in turn, leads to more fund-raising dollars for AARP. DemocRAT lackey scumbags!
County employees of Galveston, Matagorda and Brazoria in Texas opted out of Social Security in 1981 by popular vote. Their retirement programs pay an average of 6.5% annually. If you made an average of $50,000 per year and reach full retirment, you make over $6,800 per month. This is what I read in a report by the National Center for Policy Analysis.
Of course Congress made "opting out" illegal in 1983.
Cool...plug those numbers into my spreadsheet and spread the word!
