Two solutions: File the papers with your attorney. You can also record them at your county recorder's office. That may be called something else in your area, but you can record legal documents with your county or parish (LA).

See your attorney for more information regarding living wills. Do get it right, to prevent your wishes from being ignored.

Be careful what and how you file with county/parish. I believe it then becomes considered public record in many places, and is ripe for picking for identity theft or privacy intrusion. Create a living will, but just be cautious.

Also, be sure your document is valid for wherever you might need it.
