BJP flays renewed US decision on Modi

Press Trust Of India Posted online: Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at 1212 hours IST

New Delhi, March 22: The BJP on Tuesday condemned the renewed US decision to deny visa to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and to disassociate the party from the move.

A meeting of the BJP parliamentary party of BJP, chaired by party president L.K. Advani, passed a unanimous resolution which said the US decision was ‘without any basis’.

It also regretted and termed as ‘wrong’ US ambassador to India David C. Mulford's statement that the decision applied only to Modi and not to BJP as an institution or the Gujarati community, party spokesman V K Malhotra said after the meeting.

The resolution was moved by Rajya Sabha member Pyarelal Khandelwal and unanimously endorsed by the House, he said.
