Ahmedabad, March 22: NDA leaders were jeopardising the "life, liberty and livelihood" of Indians residing in America by holding out "veiled threat" to US over denial of visa to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, according to an NGO.
The conflict between Modi and US State Department has nothing to do with the ordinary people of India or America, Jan Sangharsh Manch, an NGO representing post-Godhra riot victims before the Nanavati Commission probing the riots, said in a release.
"The irresponsible statements by NDA leaders, especially L.K. Advani including his threat to start a sustained agitation on the issue is fraught with serious consequences for the NRIs", it said.
Objecting to NDA's attempts to project the denial of visa to Modi as an issue of "national pride", the Manch said, "the country's name should not be dragged into this murky affair of denial of visa to Modi.
It said Modi comparing the visa denial incident to mahatma Gandhi being thrown out of a train in South Africa, in his address to American Indians in US, was misplaced and mischievous.
