ABC News reported on this doctor and it was an eye opener alright.

Peter Jennings and ABC's doctor have a copy of the papers that Jeb Bush is filing today with the "new" evidence that she might not be PVS.

ABC's doctor read from the last page.

The "new" doctor was in the room for 90 minutes, during that time Terri did not exhibit any sounds, no eye movement, no recognition -- nothing.

But he then went on to say something like, "But you get the sense she can."

Well, she's been without water and nutrition for five days now. No wonder.

She has been starved and dehydrated for 5 days, did ABC expect her to get up and dance?

well, fercryinoutloud, after being without food and water for five days, in certain emotional turmoil, and possibly even under the influences of pain meds, yeah, Terri might be a bit slow in responding to stimulus. But even with the present conditions, this dr. still disagreed with the previous PVS ruling.

Did this physician examine her? If he was in the room for 90 minutes, what was he doing?

By the way, a judge has already ordered DCF not to do anything.

Interesting- is this the doc from Mayo Clinic? I imagine she couldn't make much movement etc- she's into her 6th day with no food or water.

Baffling case...on so many levels.

http://www.nationalreview.com/pdf/Affidavit.pdf

This neurologist who Jeb Bush mentioned in his press conference earlier today, William Cheshire, says outright that he believes that "it can be ethically permissible to discontinue artificially provided nutrition and hydration for parsons in a permanent vegetative state." But having "met and observed Ms. Schiavo in person" he doesn't believe this should be happening to Terri Schiavo.

"He states that "There remain, in fact, huge uncertainties in regard to Terri's true neurological status." She hasn't been fully evaluated by a neurologist for three years, he says, has not had an MRI or a PET. And some of the technology to determine if a patient is in a minimally conscious state has only emerged in the last few years. "New facts have come to light in the last few years that should be weighed in the neurological assessment of Terri Schiavo."

"He writes that Terri Schiavo "demonstrates a number of behaviors that I believe cast a reasonable doubt on the prior diagnosis of PVS." Among these observations, he pinpoints: "Her behavior is frequently context-specific. For example, her facial expression brightens and she smiles in response to the voice of familiar persons such as her parents or her nurses...Several times I witness Terri briefly, albeit inconsistently, laugh in response to a humoroius comment someone in the room had made. I did not see her laugh in the absence of someone else's laughter."..

The blockquote above is from an article at the NRO site, but I am unable to find it.

Rather than rely on evidence presended by posters, I urge all readers to check the raw testimony and court proceedings for themselves, and draw your own conclusions.

If you or I had been without nutrition and hydration for 5, nearly 6, days, it is doubtful that we would be able to communicate effectively either. Considering Terri's disability, the fact that she has been without food and water for such a long period of time, AND considering she may be receiving morphine, I don't find the physician's statement surprising at all.

She'd been deprived of food and water for five days. What the hell do you expect?

That's a dispicable halftruth. You should be ashamed.

Six days of starvation and thirst could do that to you.

I believe she is also on heavy duty morphine, which if you or I were under, we'd be doing nothing either.

Well, duh! Today was Day 6 of her starvation & dehydration. How active would you be after 6 days of no food or drink? Especially since she began her starvation in an already debilitated neurological state. State-ordered murder. I'm sure she's as weak as can be. Savage said it's like watching a murder in slow motion.

""ABC's doctor read from the last page. The "new" doctor was in the room for 90 minutes, during that time Terri did not exhibit any sounds, no eye movement, no recognition -- nothing.""

---- Ahem, since when are we supposed to take Peter Jennings as Gospel? ABC is aggressively lobbying for Terri to die.

Here is Thursday's LA Times, which actually quotes the neurologist's report. He's a Mayo Clinic neurologist, no hick. And he says Terry looked him in the eye. And made various noises. -- And lifted eyebrows, even laughed. Read and learn:

March 24, 2005 A SECOND OPINION Doctor Says Examination Changed His Mind A neurologist contends Schiavo could be in a 'minimally conscious state.' But critics cite his conservative Christian background. ....In his affidavit, Cheshire wrote that he came into the case believing that it was "ethically permissible" to withdraw Schiavo's feeding tube. But during his evaluation, he began to notice what he interpreted as faint signs of consciousness. For example, he wrote, "her facial expression brightens and she smiles in response to the voice of familiar persons such as her parents." When piano music is playing, "she lifts her eyebrows, smiles, and even laughs." During Cheshire's visit to her bedside, she turned her head to look directly at his face, then held his gaze for about 30 seconds, he wrote. Schiavo cannot speak, but Cheshire wrote that he discerned differences in her monosyllabic utterances, cooing at some points or making guttural sounds when annoyed. These vocalizations could well be signs of "emotional thought within her brain," he wrote.
