DCF Considers Removing Schiavo from Hospice by Force
Palm Beach Post ^ | 3.23.05 | Dara Kam

State officials say they are considering removing Terri Schiavo from hospice, by force if necessary, despite numerous court orders upholding the removal of the artificial nutrition tube that has kept her alive for 15 years.

Lucy Hadl, secretary of the Department of Children and Families, said Wednesday morning that her staff is relying on a state law that gives the department the authority to intervene on behalf of a vulnerable adult who is 'suffering from abuse or neglect that presents a risk of death or serious physical injury.'

Hadl said that the DCF would have to file a petition in order to remove Schiavo, but that 'it doesn't mean we'd have to have judicial approval in advance of taking the action if we believed it met the threshold for doing it.'

Hadl said that seven years of court rulings backing Schiavo's husband Michael, in his contention that Terri Schiavo did not wish to be kept alive artificially would not stop the DCF from taking action.

'We're not compelled to look at prior judicial proceedings,' Hadl said.

What we are compelled to look at is the presenting circumstances and any allegiations of abuse and neglect that we have recieved. So we have to deal with those and fufill out statutory responsibility.'

Its a hard thing to watch a loved one die in front of your eyes. My Mom had a brain tumor as well.

I bless the great folks from the hospice for helping my Mom pass as pain free and calmly as humanly possible.

At the end she was put on the strongest pain meds and she slowly went home to Jesus where I know she is today. Safe in His arms.

Didn't have to have the President intervene, no Congressional circus and no fanatical crazies threatening to kidnap her either.

I don't know what these people are thinking by butting in on the most private family issues that people have to face in this world.

...having one's brain turn into liquid is not a physical impairment.

I don't want to dive into the fray that unfortunately seems to have erupted here.

I'm only driving by to suggest that the condition of Terri's brain may be more difficult to ascertain than many think.

Specifically, this may be worth a look: CODEBLUEBLOG ANALYZES TERRI SCHIAVO'S CT OF THE BRAIN

Anyone who parrots the line of the three networks, CNN, Time, Newsweek, etc., without considering the evidence contradicting the party line that Terri Schiavo is in a permanent vegetative state, that Michael Schiavo is a loving husband, etc., as developed on conservative Web sites and talk radio is one of the sheeple.

Your MSM talking points may sell over at DU, but not here.

So is that the reason for the cremation? Get rid of the evidence "just incase she actually did have a brain"?

Yeah it's a big conspiracy.

Your right 20+ judges and countless doctors got it wrong, Terri's singing shows as we speak.

Technically there is a state police the FWC but they are used primarily for other purposes. It is my understanding however that County police report to FDLE especially in situations like this. It would "not" be unheard of for FDLE to pull rank. Counties and cities ask for their help alllll the time, especially in hard to handle cases.

So you support your argument with an article from a liberal rag like The Miami Herald. Gee, what's next - The New York Times, The Nation, salon.com, Chairman Mao's Red Book?

There is something about dying many people do not understand. When someone is ill, there is something in that person's soul which says it is time to go. You have to expirience it to know the truth, but each and every patient I have seen die (and there have been many) choose the time to let go.

Sometimes they will hold on until that last child gets a chance to say goodbye. Sometimes they will wait until the family leaves. Sometimes it is as simple as saying "It's okay to let go."

I have seen patients hold on until after a birthday or a holiday. Every nurse who reads this will back me up.

Terri may have made a remark when she was 20. Hell, I have said it. But look at Terri today. Her body is not in the stages of dying. She is not lingering. She is not being forced to endure the effects of a terminal illness.

If allowed to live, Terri will die when it is time for Terri to die. She is not a "vegeatable." We cannot decide to end someone's life on the basis of vegetation.

Her husband and Judge Greer are hell bent on killing her. They want her dead yesterday.

Legally, I realize Greer has the power. But they are using the law to sanction ending the life of a healthy person who has suffered brain damage...

ok you did not answer the question so I will try again: why are they hell bent on having her cremated immediately after she dies.

Your mother was dying. Terri was not dying until they stopped feeding her. Why is it so hard for those like you to understand this?

I never mentioned Michael Schiavo. I have said that numerous courts found that it was TERRI"S WISH not to live in her current state. You now have a small group of zealots that are all gung ho about the government coming into a private matter and forcing a woman to live against her wishes.

But what do I know, I'm just a sheeple.

It's what she wanted. Don't get mad at me buddy. She did not wish to "live" in that state.

I don't blame her.

You should take heart that after 15 years your new Messiah is finally getting her wish.

Where did she ask to be starved? And since when do we parcel out property post mortem on what someone heard. You need a written will. And please note when, where and how she asked to be starved. Where?
