Diversity in corporations is joke. The evil HR Dept sends management to classes that eats up two (tortuous) days. We pretend to be interested and even role play when asked to. The instructor is almost always an African-American, who says stuff like, "Blacks don't look people in the eye..it's cultural." Yeah, right. Well, it's called STEREOTYPING!! But we can't say that. We just suffer along for two days, pretend all is well, then when it's over, we go back to work and do as we damn well please!!!
Thats because you want to play semantics with the term when the term stands for a total piece of socialist equal outcome cr*p and you know it. Diversity was an invented term. Diversity training is how it is used. This gentle term has people cr*ping in their pants because they can't laugh at an ethnic joke. Managers get replaced by minotities who can't write or spell but they are the correct minority. If peace were acheived by this kind of brainwashed scheme it would not be worth anything either. Leave it complicated. You like diversity somehow as long as it does not mean pushing people around, but it does. There is no redeaming aspect to it.
See that has NOT happened to me, so that's why I disagree with you. I've seen it work. These useless diversity training sessions haven't happened in my jobs or at my school, and we get along fine. I seriously don't know what's wrong with where you are, but over there apparently is this bastardization of an ideal that unfortuantely is making you dismiss it entirely.
As long as there are no training sessions, people get selected on criteria other than race, sex, orientation, or the like, and people are all respected because everyone knows that special criteria were not used, I guess you could say one of two things. (1) diversity is not even needed as a term or ideal. Everybody works to their potential and everything is handled on the basis of merit. There are no conflicts because the lack of diversity criteria in the workforce has not prevented a natural diversity to exist -- that all people are welcome and represented in the workforce and social gatherings. Of course this is fine. But then the term "diversity" is so natural that it needs no special term meaning programs set in place to right past inbalances. (2) The other possibility is that a sub rosa diversity program exists and no one needs to bring it to light. This may be the result of federal programs checking ratios and very high level understandings about what kind of people get promoted and selected. I doubt this could be the case because when it is one minority group feels it intensly. (The white male). You seem to be in a good place. I would not recommend digging deeper or changing to any large corporation. There is a price most firms pay for "diversity" and it comes from the best people often not getting ahead or making the decisions. Glad that it has not happened where you are.
