The sad truth. The courts care more about killers than they do about Terri Schavio.
Strange days, no?
All of this is creating more pressure on the judicial branch.
This is all going to come to a head when a Supreme Justice steps down. That's when Bush will use this political pressure on the courts to his advantage against the Dems and make it easier to sidestep a filibuster.
This is a tragedy, but it's going to be used wisely politically to make pro-life changes in the future.
Time keeps on slippig, slipping, slipping....
I welcome you with open arms. Time will prove your intentions. First day posts on topics like this can be suspect. Lots of trolls want Terri dead. If only because many love her, and want her to live.
No real clarity on what the next step is with DCF.
I don't think Jeb would have given the 3 PM press conference if he didn't fully intend to use DCF. (Too politically damaging if he went through all that and it was only a bluff to push the legislature).
I'd expect DCF to engage (and I have NO inside info here - just speculating), but the question is..will he push that button quickly enough to save Terri, or will they dilly-dally around worried about things that don't matter - and lose the opportunity if she dies before then?
"I said in another thread and will repeat here..
That it appears that we have become a society where life is niether treasured or honored...
When someone's life becomes a matter of convenience..
Then society has lost it's SOUL...
That is what we are witnessing...
Ms.B"
Our Founding Fathers knew just what to do when they found themselves in a society just like that. They worked hard to make one that wouldn't.
But they erred when they thought that all men would act honorably in that society. So we are right back where we started 227 years ago. Black robed executioners killing the innocent. What will we do to change it?
Great post.
"I firmly believe that's because they are misinformed about the case."
I think so. I actually got into a bit of an argument with a liberal friend of mine up here today--she started saying about how outrageous it was that George Bush would get involved, that the prime minister would never involve himself in a family matter, yada yada yada.
I was actually angry and said, "wait a minute. Just stop. George Bush hasn't done anything but sign a piece of legislation. He hasn't done anything that any president hasn't done in the past and it's highly unlikely he will intervene."
But people hate George Bush so much up here and they are not informed, so they believe he did something totally outside of the law last weekend.
That was a protective custody question that I took to be different from the question about DCF.
I thot he was waiting for the vote...and that's done. so ...something needs to happen...and fast......

Democrats - The Party of Choice. We choose to kill!
Yes that's good--they do choose to kill. The pro-choice advocates never advocate keeping the baby or adoption. Did you read the story posted today where the mother of a 14 year old was arrested for trying to stop her at the abortion clinic from getting an abortion? It was like something out of a science fiction novel. Those clinic workers made darned sure she got that abortion.
Yes...
Strange, sad, and tragic...
Ms.B
And won't the legitimacy of the government also be in question if executive action is taken outisde of the scope of its authority?
Jeb has nothing to loose. He is term limited from running again.
He has the senate or the VP job if he wants it.
