Bush Says Kim Jong-Il 'Must Listen' on Nuclear Reuters Wednesday, March 23, 2005; 2:04 PM WACO, Texas (Reuters) - President Bush urged North Korea leader Kim Jong-il on Wednesday to return to stalled six-party talks on its nuclear program "for the sake of peace and tranquility and stability." Bush, at a news conference with Mexican President Vicente Fox and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin, denied setting a June deadline for North Korea to return to talks and said the five nations that have been negotiating with Pyongyang -- the United States, China, Japan, South Korea and Russia -- were united. "I'm a patient person. And so are a lot of people that are involved in this issue. But the leader of North Korea must understand that when we five nations speak, we mean what we say," Bush said. Bush said he received a two-hour briefing from Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice about her recent trip to Asia. He said Chinese President Hu Jintao made clear to Rice that it was still the objective of the Chinese government to pursue six-party negotiations. There have been suggestions from the Chinese in the past that the United States must talk directly to North Korea. "There is a way forward, I repeat, for Kim Jong-il. And it's his choice to make. We've made our choice. China has made its choice. The other countries have made their choices," Bush said. "And for the sake of peace and tranquility and stability in the Far East, Kim Jong-il must listen," he said. The six parties have held three rounds of talks since August 2003 and the process has stalled. White House spokesman Scott McClellan said a U.S. proposal put on the table in June remained open for discussion at the talks.

ya know this is all soooooo ridiculous!!!
All W has to do is put a bug in the Chicoms' ears
"if you don't put a leash on NK your Chinese merchandise is not unloaded in America and that goes for Hong Kong, Japan & South Korea " PERIOD!
I'm sure Walmart can hold out for a week or so! LMAO
'cause that's about as long as it will take for the Chicoms to wake up and smell their tea!
I'd do what the man says if I were you.
Maybe he is just avoiding the illegal immigrantion issue. I have yet to hear him say ANYTHING about it that would indicate he has any intention of stopping the invasion of this country....or is that 9% increase in Mexican votes more important ???
I also wonder if he asked Fox about the DVD that the Mexican government is handing out to wanna-be illegals, showing them HOW TO ENTER THE U.S. ILLEGALLY???? And that is a fact....
"All W has to do is put a bug in the Chicoms' ears "
His major constituence, the fortune 100 multinationals, would absolutely freak if he ever threatened trade with china. at the current level of crisis, it simply isn't going to happen, and if it ever does it will presage worse things to come, possibly including military conflict.
Do you really think the chinese reaction to a threatened embargo would be to fold quickly?
"Wish the bad man into the cornfield Anthony"
"I have yet to hear him say ANYTHING about it that would indicate he has any intention of stopping the invasion of this country...."
He never has, to my knowledge, and furthermore all of his actions indicate that he does not intend to interrupt the large-scale entry of illegal workers into this country. Border security would be SO simple if he wanted it.
As far as I can tell, washington's main concern is the economic growth provided by the ongoing immigration into the US. A president trying to get amnesty for illegals here already isn't a president trying to reverse or stop the problem.
We need to stop this rush to war. We must try diplomacy.
</sarcasm>
"Do you really think the chinese reaction to a threatened embargo would be to fold quickly?" if they have half a brain they would! they can't survive without exporting!
And NK can't survive without China!
And over half of the Chicom exports go to the countries I listed! OVER HALF!
He never has, to my knowledge, and furthermore all of his actions indicate that he does not intend to interrupt the large-scale entry of illegal workers into this country. Border security would be SO simple if he wanted it.

Agreed and underscored. There are SO MANY things wrong and bad with what he is doing with this situation -- and blame rests with the ENTIRE Congress as well. They are destroying this country in many ways, all at the expense of the American citizen and ALL FOR VOTES. My money says he will not say ANYTHING of any consequence on this issue relative to his meeting with Fox -- at of meaning and substance to the American citizen who cares about saving America.
I think their reaction to such an action (even assuming we could get japan and ROK onboard, which i strongly doubt at present) would be to escalate, not back down.
Oh, ohhh....."Kim Jong-il MUST listen." AHHAAA!! Further evidence of our "hostile policy" towards the benevolant DPRK!! Gimmie a break! If China would just turn off the aid spigot to North Korea, they would gladly turn their nukes over.
