It's extremely unlikely that your fertility problem was related to the abortion. That's a popular myth among anti-abortion activists, but there's no unbiased medical evidence which backs it up. In the Soviet Union, studies consistently found that women had had an average of at least 9 abortions -- it was the only birth control method available, so everybody used it over and over again. Soviet medicine was hardly advanced (I lived there for a couple of years in the late 60s/early 70s and no Westerner would have dreamed of going to a Soviet doctor -- if you needed more than your embassy clinic could provide, you hopped on a plane to Finland). And yet even with the relatively primitive medical skills, equipment, and facilities, women who abortions virtually always got pregnant again, in a long repetitive cycle of pregnancy-abortion-pregnancy-abortion-pregnancy-abortion . . . . Abortion does not cause sterility, period. If there are serious complications, which are rare, that can occasionally lead to fertility problems, but no more than complications from natural miscarriages.

Okay, "doctor"

I'm sure there isn't any chance in your small brain that ripping a fetus out of your womb could cause any trauma. But, you were replying to a woman who, obviously, was pregnant at one time. Now, for some reason isn't able to be pregnant anymore.

Plus, the fact that you contradict yourself in your posting... Soviet medicine was hardly advanced (I lived there for a couple of years in the late 60s/early 70s and no Westerner would have dreamed of going to a Soviet doctor

Abortion does not cause sterility, period.

So, in the same post, you say that Soviet medicine wasn't advanced, but then use that same medicine to advance your theory that abortions cause no one to have fertility problems.

So, can we trust Soviet medicine, or not?

My wife is a medical doctor. She assures me that you don't know what you're talking about. Botched abortions and post-abortion infections can most certainly cause sterility, and there is a finite risk of those things, just like there is a finite risk of errors and infections in any surgical procedure.

My wife graduated from Tufts Med School and did her residency at the University of Chicago. What are your medical credentials? Oh, right: you have none.

You do not know the medical science and actually do not know what you are talking about. If you do know how to do a Google search, you should have looked at the infant mortality rate in the former USSR, the premature births and low birthweight. The infant mortality rate is twice that of the US.
Russia: http://www.unicef.org/infobycountry/russia_statistics.html
US: http://www.unicef.org/infobycountry/usa_statistics.html

1st miscarriage - probably no correlation with future pregnancies. 2nd - still little concern, but watch and wait. 3rd - "habitual" with high rate of future miscarriages.

Any gynecological procedure can lead to infection and bleeding that can result in sterility. Birth as well as abortion, but the abortion is the "elective" procedure.

Even the abortionists note that previous abortions increase the risk of future premature births, low birthweight, placenta previa and "mood disorders substantial enough to provoke attempts of self-harm."
The article is:
"Long-Term Physical and Psychological Health Consequences of Induced Abortion: Review of the Evidence"
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=12544786&dopt=Abstract
but it's pay per view. I can freep mail it to anyone who would like a copy for study.
