I don't believe it's a hoax. Intoxication, or a high, from alcohol absorbed through the lungs would be much faster and would be less toxic to the body.

I quit after about 10 or 15 minuits, but one of my friends tried for like 45 minuits.

You'd absorb more doing straight shots.
